秋の花の中のウズラの群れを描いた六曲一隻の屏風 - Paper, Wood - Japan - 明治時代(19世紀後半)
A Japanese six-panel folding screen painted on paper, depicting a group of quails among autumn flowers and grasses.
The composition unfolds through abundant vegetation of small wildflowers and tall susuki grasses, their slender stems intertwining naturally across the lower section of the screen. Several quails appear among the foliage in different poses, while two small birds fly across the open space to the right.
The painting is distinguished by the careful rendering of the birds' plumage and the subtle tonal variations of the foliage, punctuated by vivid blue and pink blossoms.
Signed and with two red seals at the lower left.
The screen is finished with silk borders and a lacquered wooden frame.
The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider.
Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings.
---The byobu is in good condition, with minor wear and two restored holes on the fifth and sixth panels, as well as some discoloration along the panel joints. Wear to the lacquered frame. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
