Antique 聖遺物箱 - Metal, Silverplated - 1900-1910 - アンティーク聖遺物箱付胸部十字架

Antique Reliquary Pectoral Crucifix (c. 1900) – Ebony and Silver-Plated Alloy – Monastic Craftsmanship For sale: a large, collectible antique crucifix (a monastic or pilgrim’s pectoral cross), crafted in a traditional Catholic style during the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece originates from a Western European workshop specializing in religious artifacts. Materials: The stepped, profiled outer frame is made of a heavy metal alloy (brass/bronze) with a period-appropriate, electroplated silver finish. It features a superb natural patina within the recesses; the piece has not been chemically cleaned, in order to preserve its authenticity. Cross Body: Features flawless geometric inlays of natural, deep-black ebony wood (a fine micro-crack is visible on one of the arms—a natural sign of aging in wood that is over a century old). Attachment: At the top, there is a solid, circular suspension loop, originally designed to accommodate a thick chain or a monastic cord (for wear around the neck or at the waist). Main Compartment (Front): Protected by an original, domed period-glass cover, which creates a magnifying optical effect. Inside, there is a miniature, hand-assembled display—crafted within a monastery—set against a red textile background. It includes the original Latin-inscribed labels for four saints: S. Simonis, S. Francisci, S. Theresiae, and S. Elisabeth. IMPORTANT NOTE: The reliquary contains exclusively second- or third-class textile relics (fragments of saints' sacred garments or cloths that have touched their tombs). There are NO bone fragments or human biological remains. Reverse Side (Back): On the back, there is a second circular window housing a diamond-shaped textile relic, bearing the printed inscription "Agnus Dei" (Lamb of God). Symbolism of the Small Stars: The fragment is secured against the red background by seven small metal stars, which retain the patina of age. In Christian tradition, these seven stars symbolically represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord), as well as the seven Sacraments. CONSERVATION NOTE: The small protective glass pane on the back is missing (lost over time); however, the internal elements remain fixed and perfectly stable in their positions. A rare piece with profound spiritual and historical significance—ideal for collectors of sacred art, antiquarians, or for personal devotion.
