French handmade wooden box dating from 1800–1850, with a pyrography-decorated arched lid featuring a cityscape, two hearts, the monogram “FR” and a crown.
Description from the seller
arch-shaped lid is adorned with a cityscape, the monogram "FR," and two hearts — suggesting the box was created as a token of affection, perhaps a gift from a man to his future wife. A large crown sits at the top. The interior is lined with red paper, featuring an intricate pattern of hexagonal panels. It is possible that the box was once covered in paper bearing an ink-written inscription, as handwritten text on the front dating from around 1800 can still be seen on the front. While the meaning of the words remains unclear, the piece is certainly intriguing. Please examine the photographs of this charming and rare antique box. Measures: L. 30,3 cm x 20,4 cm x 11,7 cm.
