Hiroshi Saito - Original Key Setup - Moomin - (1992)
Hiroshi Saito - Good - 1 Original artwork

So-called “key setups” are the Holy Grail of animation: one or multiple production cels, combined with the original hand-painted background, exactly as the picture appears in the film. This is such a key setup, with original overlay, from an episode with feature length of the series “Comet in Moominland” (Moomin Tani Suisei) from 1992 by Hiroshi Saito and Masayuki Kojima. The matching layout drawing is also included.
The series is based on the children’s books by the Finnish writer Tove Jansson.

The Moomin figures already appeared in the 1960s as a daily cartoon in a Dutch newspaper, but they only became really popular in the 1990s with this television series.

Some background information: 35.8 x 25.0 cm.
Overlay cel: 35.5 x 24.5 cm.
Cel with Moomins: 26.4 x 22.7 cm.
Layout drawing: 26.3 x 22.5 cm.
