Cassee attended the AKI in Enschede from 1950-1954, and worked in Paris in Atelier 17 in 1961, he worked with S.W. Hayter. From 1966 to 1988 he was a teacher at the Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch.
Dick Cassee is one of the most important graphic artists of the Netherlands. He is inspired by vast landscapes, his drawings come from the direct perception. On the spot he made dozens of drawings of the subject to "take the form with him", after which he worked on them in the studio.
