Statue representing Discobolus (1) - Crumb - First half 20th century

Statue representing Discobolus (1) - Crumb - First half 20th century

Statue with base, from Veneto (Italy), more precisely from a park in an abandoned hotel in Jesolo (Venice), dating back to the first half of the 20th century. It was made using grit: the waste from the working of Vicenza stone and granite, bonded with cement, coloured with natural oxides and mixed with water. Later it was coloured again with white lime. This type of material was born as a cheaper but interesting option to replace the expensive Carrara marble, and was very much used in large villas from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. It depicts: a Discus thrower. Dimensions: H. 160 cm + base H. 51 x 38 x 38 cm The object comes in its original condition, a finger is missing (please see photos with red circles).
