Description
Dance mask (1) - wood, glass beads, textile - Bamileke - Cameroon
Late 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear

Very beautiful and expressive Bamileke mask, carved from one piece of wood and made the traditional way with fine beads/glass pearls.
This type of decoration is very specific to the Bamileke and Bamoun, and creates a special miraculous effect!
The shape of the head is also specific to the Bamileke, you can find it in very old pieces.

These masks are worn diagonally on the forehead so-called crest masks, in combination with very colourful outfits on special occasions.

The Bamilekes (French: Bamiléké) are one of the most important ethnic groups in Cameroon.
Together with the Tikar and the Bamoun they form the "Hemi-Bantoe" group.
They live in the west of Cameroon, in the so called Grassland - Cameroon.

Besides this man type mask there are also animal (zoomorphic) masks, made in the same traditional way with glass pearls also with a fantastic look.

The items will be well packaged and shipped with care.
