antique image of the Descent from the Cross (1) - Plaster

Description
antique image of the Descent from the Cross (1) - Plaster
unknown - Early 20th century

Very nice antique plaster statue of the descent from the cross. The method of painting gives the impression that it is a wooden statue. The image is centred around the dead pale body of Jesus lying on John’s lap, his favourite student. Mary, in a blue robe, stands on the left, she supports the body of Jesus. In front is Mary Magdalene, embalming and washing Jesus’ feet. The woman on the right is probably Mary, wife of Klopas.
Very expressive image.
Dimensions:
- 25.5 cm L x 8.5 cm W x 24 cm H
- Weight: 1.929 g
The statue is in good condition given its age; the paint has come off in some places.
Nice item for a collector!
