Our "Biteke" Fetish figurine has glued cowry shells as eyes and is completely wrapped with textile rags apart from the head.
Under the wrapping is the "Bonga"-magical load that could only be applied by the "Maganga" priest.
Ex. Colonial collection. Dr. Dandoy. Bruxelles (in situ ca. 1935).
Semi hard wood type.
Sweaty, dark brown black oil patina.
Wrapped in light textile.
Insect damage to the face.
Indigenous resin restoration underneath the foot.
Here and there traces of white kaolin powder on the textile.
Beautiful, very old Teke-Fetish!
