Hans Erni, born on 21st February, 1909 in Lucerne, where he passed away on 21st March, 2015, is a Swiss painter, graphic designer, engraver and illustrator. In 1927 he joined the Art academy in Lucerne. In 1928 he went to Paris to study at the Académie Julian, where he received a reward. A year later he moved to Berlin and other European cities. There, he met Kandinsky, Mondriaan and many others. From 1930 to 1934 he worked under the pseudonym of François Grèque. He joined the Abstraction-Creation group and in 1937 - 1938, in London, he met and became a friend of Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and the German emigrant members of Bauhaus.
