Description
Elephant Mask - Wood, Copper - Bali - Cameroon
mid 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear

Elephant masks, worn on the top of the head, were an important part of every ritual dance sequence. The elephant was a royal icon and elephant masks were owned by lineage groups. Their importance was second only to the leader mask and was danced last, in a very stately manner, befitting its high rank.

Great elephant mask. High quality mask. Beautiful decorated with copper and metal strips. Good condition with a beautiful patina of age.
