This is the most successful poster for the Antwerp Zoo from the early 1950s René Victor studied drawing in night school at the Antwerp Academy and got the knack of the fine tricks of the printing business at printing companies F. De Smet and L. De Vos. It is no coincidence that Van Poppel got to know the artists Edgard Darimont and Jos Michielssen at the aforementioned printers, who drew the large giraffes poster (1935) and the hippo (1936), two undisputed masterpieces.
