The Netherlands - Bicycle tax plates 1930-1940 - 18 pieces - Brass.
Bicycle tax in this form was introduced in 1924 and was ended in 1941. The costs were three guilders per year, later reduced to 2.50 guilders. A new plate needed to be bought each year, otherwise one wasn’t allowed to take it to the roads. After a new plate was bought, the old one could be disposed off in large canisters at the post offices. The collected brass was collected and sold for the benefit of the tuberculosis fund.
Bicycle plates were issued from 1924 through 1941 in the standard version, a total of seventeen.
There also plates with a hole in them and they were for those that were excluded from income taxes, amongst others, the unemployed.
