The meteorite comes from Seymchan, province of Magadan. Russia.
The meteorite was found in 1967 in the Magadan district of Russia. It was first classified as an octahedral siderite and then reclassified to pallasite after the discovery of many other olivine-containing fragments.
Geologist F. A. Mednikov found the main mass (272.3 kg) in the bed of a brook flowing into the Hekandue river in 1967. Another smaller mass (50 kg) was found in October 1967, 20 meters away from the first one by I. H. Markov, using a mine detector.
The main mass of the meteorite is now conserved at the Academy of sciences of Russia in Moscow.
