Zeeland hand-carved wooden coat rack - Copper, Wood

Zeeland hand-carved wooden coat rack - Copper, Wood
Netherlands - Mid 20th century

Beautiful handmade coat rack with 5 beautiful copper hooks and nice woodcarving.
In very nice condition (light wear).

This is a typical Zeeland coat rack (province of Zeeland - The Netherlands) because they used fruit wood and because of its very labour-intensive craftsmanship and extremely fine decorations. Please see photos.

They normally used a horse knife for this technique. The cutting happens with all kinds of different blades, chisels, drills and files. This carving technique is called ‘snikkeren’ in Walcheren. That means cutting off small pieces (of wood). This carving technique was also used in the 20th century for decorating other objects such as gavels, bread boards, coat racks and desk items.

Please see all photos for details. Very unique.

Length: 74 cm.

This unique handmade coat rack will be very well packaged and sent with Track and Trace.
