This beautiful wood-carved figurine is from Ghana, Africa.
It is used by the Ashanti people who call it Akua’ba.
It is a fertility figurine.
A woman who wants to conceive carries a figurine like this on her back.
Akuaba's are used by women who are not able to conceive. Such figurines are made on the advice of a priest when a woman is unable to conceive. The woman carries the figurine in her loincloth like a real child.
Size approx.
