Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari Bolgheri.
The grapes for this wine come from the Maremma: the relatively cool
coastal region west of the Chianti region. The soils consist mainly
of terre brune, rich in clay and sand.
The three grape species are harvested separately, fermented for 15 days
and matured for 12 months on new and used oak
casks. Then the wine is blended and another half year of
aging in the bottle follows.
cabernet franc (60%), cabernet sauvignon (30%), petit verdot (10%).
Smell & taste:
Complex, floral and elegant with black fruit, rose, eucalyptus, green
pepper and red orange. Pure and intense with firm, but delicate
tannins and well integrated wood aromas.
Delicious with dishes with lamb or a grilled rib-eye.
Nice to know:
Starting from 2015, the character of the Magari has changed by increasing the
share of cabernet franc in the blend. Merlot has more difficulty in warmer areas
due to climate change. Cabernet franc has a fresh,
floral nose and vegetal tones.
