Graphometer for torpedo boats with cardanic suspension.
An instrument for measuring horizontal angles, used in the past for surveying and in the navy, of the type consisting of a graduated horizontal semicircle whose zero corresponds to the bow of the ship; it is equipped with a mobile alidade around its centre to spot the point of which the polar bearing was to be taken: the simultaneous compass reading of the value of the ship's bow allowed to have the true bearing to be drawn on the chart; with the evolution of the compass, the graphometer has been replaced by a circular ring equipped with an alidade (azimuth circle or detector) that, placed on the compass, allows the direct reading of the true bearing of the object.
Box to be repainted. Instrument made of painted brass.
