About CHP Jewelry Collection - Gijs Bakker ProjectsGijs Bakker wanted to show the international design world that a piece of jewellery is more than a decorative fashion accessory. For ‘chp…?’, originality of the concept is central to the design and is supported by a fitting choice of material and technology. By showing that jewellery design evolves just like any other design discipline, ‘chp…?’ fills an existing void by making designer jewelry more widely accessible. ‘chp…?’ invited internationally acclaimed designers to create special pieces for the collection. All first prototypes ever made of designs for ‘chp…?’ are in the collection of the Design Museum Den Bosch. After 23 years ‘chp…?’ will cease to exist and with this auction the public will have a chance to obtain a piece from a remarkable collection.

A minimalist, three-dimensional construction of intersecting, flexible lines. This elegant ornament fits every arm.
Charles Marks (New Zealand, 1937-2002) is a timeless, simplicity-seeking designer. For many of his subjects, he started from the cube. “I have found a number of fascinating relationships in the cube that are a source of inspiration. The cube meets my serendipity, the ability to discover something by accident that you are not after. Let me give you an example. I designed a light object for the municipality of Eindhoven to float on the water. Because such an object must meet a large number of requirements, I had made a model of iron wire that I could use to test. At a certain moment I slide the object - an obliquely cut cube - on my arm and see how beautiful it is. To make a long story short: the light object never came into existence, but I made a bracelet out of the model. ” With success, because about 2000 of the 'Triadic’ have been sold since 1982. To private individuals, designers, collectors and museums.
