Graphite on Paper Sketch (Sanseido Published Commemorative Reprint) - Hashiguchi Goyo (1880-1921) - Graphite on Paper Sketch no. 10 (Waitress with a Tray) - From the series "Collection of Sketches of Beauties" - 1976
Hashiguchi Goyo is one of the most famous Japanese woodblock print artists of the 20th century. Goyo only lived to be 41 years old and his output is very limited (11 "bijin-ga", 4 landscapes, 1 "kacho-e").
Because of his premature death, Goyo left behind a great volume of unfinished work, including a sketchbook with 25 sketches of "Beauties" (1918–1921).
In 1976, publisher Sanseido produced a limited commemorative issue (with an edition of 500 copies) of 25 sketches from his famous sketchbook, commissioned by Goyo's heirs.
The sketch on offer is very well-known because it is used as a "genga" (base sketch) for one of its woodblock prints (Waitress with a Tray), see photo no. 2. This woodblock print is NOT included.
The very fine printing process used for this is most likely lithographic. Each sketch is printed on high-quality museum-art paper. Very detailed, of the same size and identical to Goyo's original graphite sketches, including the "scribbles".
The sketch on offer is no. 10, it is from set number 435. The edition number can be found on the box in which the sketch was originally stored (see last photo). The box is not included.
Large oban size.
Image measurements (margins not included): 28 x 41.3 cm
Total dimensions: 37 x 52 cm
The sketch is in good condition, an exact copy of the original in all its details. Please view the photos for the details.
The print will be sent by registered post, in sturdy cardboard packaging.
