Egon Schiele was an Austrian poet and artist born on June 12th, 1890 in Tulln an der Donau near Vienna and died on October 31st, 1918 in Vienna. When Egon was born, the Schiele family lived in a building near the Tulln train station. The father, Adolf Eugen Schiele, born in Vienna, was stationmaster. His own father, chairman of the works council of the Austrian Railways, took part in the construction of the western line between Prague and Cheb. Egon's mother, Marie, born Soukupova in 1861 in Krumlov, came from a family of peasants and craftsman from South Bohemia. Egon grew up with his two sisters, Melanie, born in 1886, and Gertrude, born in 1894 - the eldest, Elvira, died in 1893 at the age of ten.
