This is a coloured etching from the much-loved series of etchings; dimensions of 10 x 15 cm, and not depicted in his book.
A very nice and unique etching.
The etching is signed by the artist in the lower right, with pencil.
Bottom left titled in pencil: Westerkerk.
This etching is ACID-FREE and framed with an acid-free mat and with acid-free adhesive tape glued onto the mat and in the old/original ridged frame.
Etching, mat, and frame are in very good condition.
Cornelis Brandenburg was born in 1884 in Wormerveer.
In the year 1902, he moved to Amsterdam and studied at the Teekenschool for Kunstambachten.
He worked at “De Distel” in Amsterdam as a painter of pottery.
Thereafter, he concentrated fully on etching and became the most important etcher of the canals of Amsterdam.
He produced over 100 etchings of Amsterdam and the archives of Amsterdam own more than 60 of them.
He died in Amsterdam in 1954.
A book was published with all his etchings.
