Artist: Tsukioka Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892)
Title of the piece: Hara Soemon Taira no Mototoki
From the series "Historical Biographies of the Loyal Retainers"
Year: 1869

Beautiful series from 1869 by Yoshitoshi with portraits of each of the famous 47 ronin, accompanied by a biographical sketch.
These vivid images show the samurai taking part in the night attack on Lord Kira's home, attacking with swords and spears, dodging objects thrown at them, or in quieter moments, looking for Lord Kira or resting briefly.
The expressive figures are rendered with Yoshitoshi's characteristic attention to detail and individual appearance.

Small repaired holes.
