Dance mask - Wood - Kifwebe - Songye - Luba - DR Congo

Dance mask - Wood - Kifwebe - Songye - Luba - DR Congo
Mid 20th century - Good

Large masculine Kifwebe mask of the SONGYE tribe from D.R. Congo, Africa.
The piece shows clear LUBA influences, see e.g. the eyes.
Estimated age is around the middle of the last century. Ethnic art:
You will receive a CERTIFICATE with a picture, a description and an old age attestation signed by AFRICANART.. Primitive art.
The dimensions are: Height 40 cm x Width 20 cm x Depth 28 cm.
The colour scheme is beautiful black - brown - white which makes the mask almost look like a modern piece of art that will also do well in a contemporary interior. The piece shows a beautiful line scheme. Tribally used, there are therefore slight, to be expected, traces of use. Therefore remnants of sebum patina can be seen in the inside.
The holes are clearly hand made. This is suggested by their various diameters.
All in all, a strong characterful mask that likes to have a solitary place.
The original collectors were sisters of the order
" FRANCISCAINES MISSIONNAIRES de MARIE" I also posted some photos from their photo album which I also obtained. I can email these upon request.
