Description
Statue(s) - Wood - Personnage d'autel - Adan Ewe - Ghana
Early 20th century - Fair

Altar Figurine, Adan Ewe Culture, Ghana Height: 36 cm.

Intriguing Adan altar figure from Ghana. The figure seems to be motionless, waiting, sitting with the hands placed forward, in a tense position. An illuminated and focused expression emanates from the face. With a piercing glance, a half-open mouth, illustrating the waiting attitude. The sculpture is well-achieved, combining angular features and oval volumes, the result is quite modern regarding the shapes. There is a cavity on the back, destined to activate or disable the powers of the object. Nice work of colours, the orange pigments are intense and breathe much life into this piece. With a few lacks and damages, visible on the pictures. The base has suffered attacks of xylophagous insects. Magnificent ancient and authentic piece of collection. Around 1940.
