Ancient Roman Silver Ring with Legionary Eagle (Aquila) Standard - (1)
1st - 2nd century AD

Roman Legionary heavy solid silver ring with oval raised bezel, linear decorations on the shoulder and ring band.
The bezel shows a large Legionary standard with on top the Legionary Eagle 'Aquila' between two smaller standards.

The eagle was a powerful symbol to the Roman military. With each Roman legion a special eagle-bearer (aquilifer) had the honor of carrying the Legionary Eagle standard into battle and to guard its existence.

Outside diameter: 26 x 25,3 mm
Inside diameter: 19,4 x 17,4 mm
Weight: 15,88 g

Condition: good solid condition, wearable. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
