The artist spent several weeks creating a work in the maximum security prison in Tehachapi, California.
It's been several weeks since JR shared images from a maximum security prison in California. With the help of volunteer inmates (the vast majority of whom have been incarcerated since their teens and sentenced to life in prison based on California's three-strikes law, requiring that an individual sentenced for the third time be locked up for life), the French artist has created a gigantic work unfolding in the middle of the desert.
Alongside JR and the prisoners, some of their victims as well as members of the prison team took an active part in creating a black and white collage consisting of 338 strips of paper. Seen from the sky, symbol of freedom, the group of men poses and looks straight towards the lens
