This impressive coin shows a real piece of the Campo del Cielo meteorite, studded in the reverse in high relief with a detailed image of a crater. Campo del Cielo or "O Campo do Céu" is the site of the impact of its meteorite namesake that fell on the surface of the Earth 4.000-5.000 years ago. This catastrophic even was probably witnessed by local tribes, leaving its trail in their legends. The spread-out field of meteorite detritus covered an area of 60 km, which means that the cosmic body exploded in the atmosphere and shattered into thousands of pieces.
