Mainline History: The locomotive of the construction series E10 is an electric locomotive and belongs to the so-called "einheitsloks" that the Deutsche Bundesbahn had developed and built after WW2. The series E 10.12 is a special side-series that was constructed. It was deployed with the new "Rheingold" and "Rheinpfeil" trains, and were locomotives the were required to attain a top speed of 160 km/h. For that purpose, eleven customised E-10 locomotives with different transmission systems were constructed. The E 10.12 locomotives were given both in the "Rheingold" cobalt blue and beige livery and the TEE red and beige livery.
