A rather rare edition of the main work by Laënnec, the famous founder of the doctrine of auscultation. It counts among its pages some of the clearest and most beautiful in all of medical literature. Moreover, this second edition from 1826 is still of much greater importance than the 1819 first edition. The famous Laënnec stethoscope, a cylinder of wood in the shape of a funnel, is depicted in fig. 1 to 6 of the first double plate at the end of the first volume.
Norman No. 1255: “This edition is, in fact, the most important treatise on diseases of the thoracic organs that has ever been written.”
Garrison No.2673: “The publication of this book revolutionized the study of diseases of the thoracic organs.”
