Large folio volume containing the works (in a Latin translation) by Clement of Alexandria (circa 150? circa 215) in the edition by Gentiano Herueto Aureliano (Gentian Hervet 1499? 1584);
beautiful brands of Guarino: a palm tree in a frame, among whose branches there is a stone. On the sides of the trunk: Palma Ising. (J147) On the title page and at the end.
It contains "Liber adhortatorius adversus gentes, qui Protrepticus inscribitur; Paeagogi libri tres; e Stromaton sive Commentariorum, de varia multipliciq [ue] literatura, ad instituendum Christianum Philosophum, libri octo.”
Dedication to Cosimo de' Medici.

Large folio volume, full leather binding, gold titles on the spine with 5 raised bands, signs of wear and repairs. Pp. [4], 364, [18]. Papal bookplate, a deer in the centre. In this edition, Isengrin's commentary appears on the title page and on the back of the final sheet. Scholia at the end, notes and an index. Coeval note in pen on the first blank page, stains, signatures and owner’s stamp on the title page. Woodcut drop caps and headpieces.
Side notes printed in italics while the actual text is in Roman lettering.

"Pedagogo" addresses the real problem of the formation of Christians who combine revelation and philosophical culture and who use them to ascend to gnosis.

Titus Flavius Clemens, better known as Clement Alexandrine, was an ancient Greek philosopher, saint, apologetic and writer of the second century He is one of the Fathers of the Church.
