Jörg Immendorff, born in 1945 in Bleckede, studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Joseph Beuys, among others. His figurative oeuvre is characterised by an often metaphorical sign language, with which he dealt with topics from society, politics and culture. He also reflected his existence as an artist, also self-ironically, in his works. He is one of the most famous German artists of the present. In 2006 he was awarded the ‘Goslarer Kaiserring’. Immendorff died in Düsseldorf in 2007.
