A disciple of Yoshitoshi Tsukioka. Born in Usuki Village, Ama District, Bungo Province (currently Oita Prefecture). His name is Toyohiko. He used the surname Ichi Asai(梧斎),Bansuirou(晩翠楼),Ichigosai(一穎斎), etc. At first he studied ukiyo-e in Yoshitoshi. He also attended Kunisawa Shinkuro’s painting school and is studying oil painting. He drew illustrations such as “Tokyo Asahi Shimbun”, and in Nishiki-e, he drew three consecutive beauty paintings such as “Shunyu Sanbijin” (Meiji 23) from around 1887, but after that, Nisshin He produced war pictures such as the War and the Russo-Japanese War, newspaper illustrations, and actor pictures. In 1921, he founded the “Toshihide Essay Publishing Association(年英随筆刊行会)” and printed “Toshihide Essay(年英随筆)” in order to preserve the traditional woodblock prints Nishiki-e produced by painters, caverd, and print masters for posterity. Throughout his life, he continued his efforts to pass down traditional woodblock printing techniques to posterity, and died in 1925 at the age of 63.
