War club - Sali - Fiji
Antique Fijian Sali of massive proportions.
Very heavy and powerful weapon showing traces of age and warfare with a lot of “Mana”. (see pictures)
This large club is named after one of the clawed sali flowers from the wild banana plant. The bladed club is designed to cut through bone rather than smash it. The spur is also designed to defect an opponents club blow. Another suggestion that the spurred club was used to throttle an opponent when pinned to the ground.
The offered Sali club is an early exemplar. The wide side of the head is carved in a checkered pattern.
Measuring approx 108 cm length x 25 cm wide
