RARE OPPORTUNITY
FOSSILIZED SUMATRA RHINOCEROS HORN
This remarkable fossil is the nasal horn, the larger of two horns of an ancient species of rhino known as the Sumatran Rhinoceros. It inhabited the cold steppes which covered a large part of Eurasia in the Pleistocene.
What are the characteristics of its horns?
Dicerorhinus sumatrensis is the only Asian species to have 2 horns: a nasal (called anterior) and a frontal (posterior). Measuring 15 to 25 cm, the first is significantly larger than the second which rarely exceeds around ten centimeters. Although the Sumatran rhino does not exhibit pronounced sexual dimorphism, the male's horns are taller. Made of keratin (the same substance that makes up human hair and nails)
Note the richness of nuanced colors of this magnificent fossil
Origin: SUMATRA site. Most certainly for collector.
