Learned the Shijo School painting method from Maekawa Gorei and Hasegawa Gyokuho. Became a teacher at the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting in 1888. He received many awards at domestic and international exhibitions. Died in 1902 at the age of 56. Watanabe Kokan (1877-1938) Born in Shiga Prefecture. His name is Kohei. Also known as "Kyogyo-do" and "Yugyo-do". Studied under Morikawa Sobun. Formed the Japan Free Painting School with Iguchi Kashu, Ikeda Keisen, Ueda Banshu, Hayashi Bunto and others. Died in 1938 at the age of 61.

Japanese painter of the Meiji era.
Born in Kyoto in 1847.
Name: Eiken. His nickname was Shisei.
