About "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido":
The original artwork was created by Utagawa Hiroshige following his first journey along the Tokaido in 1832. The Tokaido was the primary travel and transport route in old Japan, connecting Edo (the shogun's capital) with Kyoto (the imperial capital).
Hiroshige's Hoeido edition of the Tokaido is his most famous work and ranks among the best-selling ukiyo-e Japanese prints. This series established a new prominent theme in ukiyo-e, focusing on "famous views" and landscapes.
