Hagi ceramics are borne in one of the oldest ceramic areas in Japan, dating back to the 16th century, near Hiroshima. The Hagi ceramics were and are used especially during tea ceremonies. Its rank is expressed in the saying: "Raku first, Hagi second, Karatsu third" , ranking in second place among the most important ceramics for tea ceremony. Main characteristics are: the high bottom stand, (takadai) and the glaze. The reddish to orange color of the clay is important as it will determine the texture and color of the Hagi surface. This chawan holds all the typical characteristics. The color of wisked matcha is beautiful in this reddis "akahagi".
It will be shipped in wood box, together with the description in Japanese. The signnature is: by Yoshida Senshu, the artist.
