DESCRIPTION Beautiful shape and colored ceramic vase. Excellent condition Tomoyuki Matsui (松井與之) is a ceramic artist born in 1931 in Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture. He was welcomed as a lecturer at the Okayama Prefecture Bizen Ceramic Center, where he nurtured nearly five hundred ceramic artists, contributing significantly to the Bizen ware ceramic community. He is one of the master craftsmen designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property by Okayama Prefecture. 1931: Born in Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture. 1946: Graduated from the National Kyoto Ceramics and Porcelain Research Institute. 1956: Studied under Yoshimitsu Morino. 1961: Selected for the Kyoto City Craft Exhibition. 1960: Worked at the Okayama Prefecture Bizen Ceramic Center (until 1973). 1966: Selected for the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition. 1969: Became a full member of the Japan Craft Association. 1971: Selected for the 1st Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. 1973: Built his own kiln in Nishikataoka, Bizen City. 1974: Selected for the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition. 1975: Selected for the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition. 1980: Received the Toyo Kaneshige Award and dedicated a "Bizen Ginsai Large Plate" to Ise Grand Shrine. 1982: Received the Okayama Prefecture Cultural Encouragement Award for 1981. 1985: Received the Art Graph Award. 1989: Received the Sanyo Newspaper Cultural Contribution Award. 1996: Designated as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property by Okayama Prefecture. 1997: Certified as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property by Okayama Prefecture and received the Okayama Nichinichi Newspaper Art and Culture Merit Award. 1999: Received the Okayama Prefecture Culture Award for 1998. 2000: Received the Okayama Prefecture Culture Award and held a 40th-anniversary exhibition of his Bizen pottery at Okayama Takashimaya. His work was viewed by the Emperor and Empress during their visit to Bizen City. 2001: Built a new kiln in May. 2008: Received the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award for Regional Cultural Contribution for 2008. 2010: Received the Miki Commemorative Award (Cultural Division) from Okayama Prefecture.
