Melkcontainer - Borana - Ethiopië (Zonder Minimumprijs)
The Borana people, also called the Boran, are a subethnic group of the Oromo-speaking people who live in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya. The name Borana means 'free', in reference to their nomadic nature.
As nomadic pastoralists, they craft and use numerous containers for the storage and transportation of milk. This type of container, called 'chocho,' is shaped like a gourd. It can be made from woven materials, which are then coated with gum to make it waterproof or crafted from a calabash.
This specimen was crafted from a gourd covered with stretched leather and extended by a neck made of braided twine enhanced with a delicate metal wire forming an elegant chevron pattern. The stopper is topped with a piece of recycled plastic. The visible stitching of the leather adds to the strong personality of this item.
The straw ring comes with the container.
