Large patinated bronze Buddhistic standing figure in the shape of the deity Hotei 布袋 holding the hand of a karako 唐子 (Chinese boy) at his side. Hotei is the god of contentment and happiness, guardian of children, patron of bartenders, and one one of Japan’s ‘Seven Lucky Gods’ 七福神 (Shichifukujin). He hold a staff in his other hand, and the child holds Hotei’s Chinese fan 扇 (oogi), which is said to be a ‘wish giving’ fan.
Both with a joyful expression.
The back with a 2-character name seal.
In a very good original condition with some superficial traces of age. The staff and fan are removable. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.

Height 39.5 cm, Width 30.5 cm, Depth 15 cm.
Weight 7.8 kg.
Period: Japan – Early/Mid-Shôwa period (Early/Mid-20th century).
