Muhammed inn Muhammad Hasan al-Tabrizi - Koran - 1559
Koran - Persia - 1559 - Tabriz. A bi-folio scribed in 1559 by Muhammed inn Muhammad Hasan al-Tabrizi, with chapter heading and marginals. We believe this to be from Chapter 43, Surah al Zukhruf, that encourages believers to relish not in riches but in their faith and love of God. Its small size indicates it would have been a travelling Koran for personal use. It is in excellent condition for its age, with only a little thinning and a minor repair to the frame (see image 3h). The overall quality is good.
Left folio, 17 lines fine nata’liq. Verses denoted by simple gilt ‘aya’ with red dot with 5 radial marking in blue on the circumference. Devotional markings in red. Simple framing markings surround the whole ending in single blue line. Large round marginal ‘juz’ in gilt with blue outline and vertical lower left.
Right folio, Surah heading in white Thuluth within a decorative frame followed by 15 lines of fine continuous nasta’liq with simple gilt ‘aya’ as above marking the verses. Simple framing markings surround the whole ending in single blue line. There is an old repair to the framing seen lower right.
Two marginal ‘juz’, on each folio with the upper roundels each with a north and south finial. The lower simple gold roundel ‘juz’ with blue outline. Commentary in naskh back script and red devotional marking upper right.
There is some marking and rubbing to both folios which is not surprising given the age and use.
Each folio is sized 11.5x8cm.
