Unknown - Quran bi-folio, Surah, Ibrahim & Al-Hijr - 1830

A good example of an Indian Kashmiri bi-folio, with nice illuminated Surat. We believe this to be from Chapter 14, Surah Ibrahim (Abraham), Aya 47-51, which can be loosely translated as: "Indeed, God is mighty and will bring vengeance on the Day of resurrection". The earth will be changed into something else and the heavens will emerge. Abraham's life mission was to protect his descendants from idol-worship, a practice that Meccans were entrenched in at the time of this revelation. Although appearing relatively simple in form, it is beautifully scribed in black Naskh, presented in 13 lines of text on each leaf, embellished with simple gold aya to mark the verses. There are diacritical devotional markings in red throughout the scripture. The Surah illumination is small, scribed in white Thuluth within a gold cartouche with two arabesque bookends and marks the change from Chapter 14 to Chapter 15, Surah Al-Hijr (The Stone Valley), offering warnings to the disbelievers. This bi-folio is in very good condition. Each page is sized as shown. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional delivery fee charged by us.
