Born on January 1, 1938, and a native of Nagano Prefecture, Kubota was a pupil of Fujino Tenkou 藤野天光 and has established his prominence in the art world, evidenced by his receipt of the Prime Minister's Award in 2010 and his respected positions within the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), the Nichoukai (Japan Carving Association), and as President of the Chiba Prefectural Art Association. Mahavairocana (Dainichi Nyorai in Japanese) is considered a cosmic Buddha in Vajrayana Buddhism, often associated with the sun and enlightenment. This statue represents the Buddha in a state of meditative equipoise, with a finely detailed halo symbolizing spiritual radiance fixed behind him. While the piece displays some signs of age, including light wear, minor scratches, a crack each on the backside of the halo and base, and a few stains, it remains in good condition. Yoshimichi's signature is inscribed on the statue. The statue comes in a custom wooden box, further enhancing its value and collectability.
