Kimono’ishô’dansu 着物衣装箪笥 (ladekast voor kimono) - Hout, Paulownia/Kiri-hout - Japan - Taishō periode (1912-1926)

Very special wooden kimono ishô dansu 着物衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers for kimono), in three sections, with a very refined lacquered design. Expertly fully restored, cleaned and waxed. The upper section's sliding doors showcase an intricate motif of a plum tree 梅 (ume) in bloom. Executed in multicoloured takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) with delicate golden accents, and encrusted with a few pieces of beautiful shiny white raden 螺鈿 (mother-of-pearl). The doors are fitted with oval thumb grips, opening to an open storage space with three small drawers at the right side. The middle and lower section configured with three large drawers equipped with slender ‘kushigata’-shaped bail handles, flanking lock plates with an engraved design of a crest depicting bamboo leaves. The smooth running drawers are very spacious and ideal for easy storage. The sides with “pole carrying”-handles for easy transport and locking the upper parts into place. The cabinet is made of indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood, varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, a colour that we like to call ‘golden oak’. Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926). Dimensions: Height 162.3 cm (T 39.3 cm, M 54.5 cm, B 68.5 cm), Width 90.7 cm, Depth 42.1 cm. The kimono cabinet is in a very good resorted condition with a great aged patina. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. No keys included. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity. #masterpieces
