This folding screen is an homage to Kōrin's masterpiece, originally designated as a National Treasure of Japan. The front panels are adorned with lavish gold leaf, bringing to life the intricate beauty of plum blossoms—a testament to the Rinpa school of painting's enduring legacy. The back of the screen features a sleek black lacquer finish, while the creator of this particular reproduction remains unknown. Ogata Kōrin (1658-1716) is a legendary Japanese painter and artisan whose work is synonymous with the Rinpa aesthetic. Born into a Kyoto-based kimono merchant family, he was deeply influenced by the opulent patterns of textiles, combining them with techniques from Kano school ink paintings and Yamato-e to create a distinctive, innovative style.
