"Picture Book II: 32 Original Lithographs" by Jean Charlot - Zeitlin & Ver Brugge, 1973 limited edition of 1000 copies, this being no 228, signed by Charlot and by printer/typographer Lynton R. Each separate color, which he draws in black on the plate, carries only a portion of the design; none is a complete image. The picture appears only when all seven or eight colors blend together at the end of the printing run. . In the present book . the pictures are printed only two at a time, and even here colors may be split on a plate. In effect, therefore, each picture has a unique combination of colors''. Jean Charlot (1898-1979), artist and scholar. Conceived as a sequel to Charlot's 1933 'Picture Book', Picture Book II is by way of being the culmination of his life's work, drawing together his fascination with Central American and Pacific Island cultures and his religious concerns into a cohesive whole. A triumph of 20th century colour printing
