Questo opéra realizzata nel 2026 da Michael Peddio belongs to the painterly research dedicated to Earth observed from above, a series started by the artist in 2025 where the landscape is reinterpreted through a suspended vision between reality and abstraction.
Critica presa dalla Galleria Reart di Reggio Emilia - La composition suggests a hilly territory crossed by a winding road that opens into the space of the painting as a human trace in the natural landscape. A road sign emerges as a symbolic and narrative element, introducing a quasi metaphysical dimension: an indication of direction, a boundary or perhaps a warning within a territory in constant transformation. Above the horizon rises a powerful red vertical form that crosses the sky, evoking an atmospheric or energetic phenomenon connecting earth and space. This element becomes the visual fulcrum of the work, creating a dynamic tension between the underlying landscape and the celestial dimension. The painting alternates matter, glazes and gestural marks, building a surface rich in chromatic stratifications. Warm earth tones, orange and red dialogue with lighter and brighter fields, suggesting the perception of a territory observed from a mental distance more than a geographical one.
In this vision the landscape is not simply represented, but transformed into an emotional map, where signs and symbols become traces of human presence within a vast and ever-changing environment.
Michael Peddio: My free expression is not confined by a preconceived idea, but conveyed through color and shapes as the only tool, a return to a primordial form of art. The absence of drawing is, for me, a prerogative of the indeterminacy of the work at birth; as in life and especially in the times we live in, there can be no certainty of outcome for any situation. My painting evolves from a white canvas to an unforeseeable ending. For me there is only the acceptance of art as an unpredictable and uncontrollable process. '
Michael Peddio takes his first steps, since childhood, inspired by his father Riccardo, a painter. The turning point comes around 30 years old, thanks to the meeting with master Teobaldo Cattini, a Reggio-based Macchiaioli painter, who opens the doors to painting. A great source of inspiration and strength from the ex-boxer artist. In 2012 the meeting with artist Barbara Nicoletto, his current partner, opens doors to his second painting season and artistic maturity. Between 2013 and 2014 painting begins to take on an inner meaning. Figuration begins to give way to introspection. Inner strength takes over and the canvas becomes a slit, with the passing of years, increasingly filter-free, increasingly devoid of reticence in showing his own I. Strength and weaknesses are shown without shame. The man is naked, without masks.
In April 2016 he is noticed by critic Daniel Buso and, together with his partner Barbara Nicoletto, he exhibits in: Il Museo in Vetrina, Bipersonale at Museo CA’ DEI CARRARESI in Treviso, an important location rarely granted to an emerging artist.
In 2018 Michael Peddio reaches painterly maturity. His paintings are free from conditioning, they express with harmony and beauty the whole raw reality the artist wants to be shown. We find strength and harmony. We also find positivity in tragedy. We find beauty.
Also since 2018 we see the artist collaborating with Galleria REART, opening up to the art world and interacting with other artists in the national scene. We see him exhibit and even curate exhibitions. He co-founds with artist Barbara Nicoletto and Giorgio Ferretti the movement of the Cromatisti. They meet in a Factory, a place of comparison and work.
In 2020 the meeting with Angela Lazzaretti, owner of Radium Artis Gallery, is a great source of dialogue with the art world at a national level for Michael Peddio. The exhibition in Pietrasanta at the Radium Artis Gallery was his debut in serious art, at 46, giving him the visibility his works deserve.
In 2021 the meeting with critic and curator Alberto Navilli opens another evolutionary step that sees his art grow more and more on the path of an increasingly crude and uncompromising estemporaneity.
