Daisuke Yokota - "Untitled / Photographs" - 2021

Item Description 横田大輔 Yokota Daisuke (1983–) — "Untitled / Photographs" — G/P + abp, 2021 — Brand New, Rare Colour Edition A rare and exceptional photobook from one of Japan's most internationally celebrated contemporary photographers: Daisuke Yokota's Untitled / Photographs, published in October 2021 by G/P + abp (Art Beat Publishers), supported by Fuji Xerox. Why this book is rare: Yokota's photobooks are consistently produced in small editions and quickly become difficult to obtain. Many of his earlier titles — including site/cloud, Matter/Burn Out, and Broken Mirrors 2020 — are now out of print and trade for multiples of their original price on the secondary market. Untitled / Photographs is no exception: it is no longer available through the publisher and is extremely scarce in new condition. This copy is brand new and unread. Why the colour printing is significant: Much of Yokota's celebrated work — including site/cloud and Matter/Burn Out — is printed predominantly in black and white or heavily desaturated tones, foregrounding the darkness and material disintegration that defines his signature aesthetic. Untitled / Photographs is one of the rare occasions on which Yokota's manipulated emulsions are reproduced in full colour, revealing the extraordinary amber, sepia, golden brown, cream, and deep black palette that the chemical processes actually produce on the photographic paper. Seeing these works in colour is a fundamentally different — and arguably more complete — encounter with the work, one that the artist himself chose to present this way for this specific publication. About the work: The photographs in this book originated from the exhibition "Photographs" at Rin Art Association Gallery, Gunma, Japan, in April 2021. In the Untitled series, Yokota departs entirely from the camera. Instead, he applies photographic emulsion, fixative (fixer), and bleach directly to photographic paper, working with his hands to create, control, and then destroy the resulting forms. The images are not records of light — they are paintings made by chemical action, traces of Yokota's physical intervention into the material of photography itself. The resulting imagery — swirling tidal landscapes of amber and black, pools of bleached silver, rivers of dissolving chemistry — sits at the border of painting, sculpture, and photography. The viewer is invited not to look at something recorded, but to experience the photograph as an object, a surface, an event. The book is in perfect condition — no creases, marks, or wear to the cover or pages. Artist Profile 横田大輔 Yokota Daisuke (1983–) Born in Saitama, Japan in 1983, Daisuke Yokota studied photography at Nippon Photography Institute in Tokyo. He has received numerous national and international awards, including the Kimura Ihei Award — one of Japan's most prestigious photography prizes — as well as the Paul Huf Award from Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam, the Canon New Cosmos of Photography Excellence Award, and the Grand Prize at the 1_WALL Exhibition. His work has been shown at Paris Photo, Unseen Photo Fair Amsterdam, Foam Museum Amsterdam, and major venues across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Yokota's practice centres on the materiality of photography — treating the photograph not as a transparent window onto the world but as a physical, chemical, and temporal object subject to manipulation, destruction, and transformation. His now-legendary site/cloud (2013) established him internationally; subsequent books including Matter/Burn Out, color photographs, and Broken Mirrors 2020 have each built his reputation as one of the most radical and visionary photographers of his generation. His photobooks are collected internationally and held in museum libraries worldwide. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL , FedEx or Japan Post depend on the situation. It takes about 10 days to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customs or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to us and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. We do appreciate for your kind cooperation.

Item Description
横田大輔 Yokota Daisuke (1983–) — "Untitled / Photographs" — G/P + abp, 2021 — Brand New, Rare Colour Edition

A rare and exceptional photobook from one of Japan's most internationally celebrated contemporary photographers: Daisuke Yokota's Untitled / Photographs, published in October 2021 by G/P + abp (Art Beat Publishers), supported by Fuji Xerox.

Why this book is rare:
Yokota's photobooks are consistently produced in small editions and quickly become difficult to obtain.
Why the colour printing is significant:
Much of Yokota's celebrated work — including site/cloud and Matter/Burn Out — is printed predominantly in black and white or heavily desaturated tones, foregrounding the darkness and material disintegration that defines his signature aesthetic.
Untitled / Photographs is one of the rare occasions on which Yokota's manipulated emulsions are reproduced in full colour, revealing the extraordinary amber, sepia, golden brown, cream, and deep black palette that the chemical processes actually produce on the photographic paper.
