BIOGRAPHY
Josef Linschinger (b. 1 August 1945, Gmunden) lives and works in Linz and Traunkirchen. One of the most significant figures in Austrian Concrete and Constructive art, his practice operates at the intersection of visual art and language — translating text, numbers, and codes into geometric structures that demand to be seen rather than read. His central interest is how we deal with language and codes, and his encryptions can be seen as possible future visions in which we completely detach ourselves from words. Kunsthalle Messmer A graduate of the Hochschule für Gestaltung Linz, he taught at the Kunstuniversität Linz from 1975 to 2003 Galeria-roy, and founded the Gmundner Symposia for Concrete Art in 1990, which he ran annually until 2009, presenting works by 600 international artists.
